Funeral Notice

Formerly of Tuam

Rita’s death comes just as Galway Race Week approaches. She and her beloved Tommy R.I.P. loved the Galway Races, and she will be laid to rest, side by side with Tommy in the same week that brings back so many happy memories for the family.

Predeceased by Tommy and by her sister Maureen Shaughnessy, brothers Joe, Seán, Mike and Tom and by her parents Michael and Delia.

Rita died on Friday 24th July in the excellent care of the staff at Flannery’s Nursing Home where she was cared for so well. She will always be fondly remembered and mourned by her dearly loved children Ann Marie, Michael, Bernadette and Jacinta, daughter-in-law Joanne, sons-in-law Jimmy, Martin and John, by her grandchildren of whom she was immensely proud; Lisa, Anthony, Elaine, Michaela, Alex, Jack, Sophie and Emma and by her great granddaughter Hollie, relatives and friends.

A woman of courage, joy and fierce love,

Now at peace, and, please God she is

reunited with the man she was inseparable from.

Rest in peace Rita, your work is done!

Funeral Arrangements

Monday, 27th July 2026

Rita will lie in repose at the Church of the Holy Family Funeral Parlour, Mervue from 5 p.m. Removal into the Church at 6.30 p.m.

Tuesday, 28th July 2026

Requiem Mass will be celebrated for at 10.30 a.m.

Following Mass she will be laid to rest in Rinville cemetery, Oranmore. Live streaming link for Mass. https://www.churchtv.ie/mervue/

Memorial donations (if desired) to the Community Palliative Care Team, Galway Hospice. Thank you for your kindness

The Entrance to the funeral parlour in Mervue is through the Front Door of the Church. Mobility needs access, to the parlour is at ground level via the car park.
