Funeral Notice
We are sad to announce the passing of Michael (Mike) Newell of Inismacatreer Island, near Cross, Co. Galway and formerly of Galway, Ennis, Tuam and Fleet (U.K.).
Mike passed away peacefully at Galway University Hospital on 28th May, 2026. Predeceased by his parents Martin and Noreen, his brother Eamonn OFM and sister Sinead. He will be sadly missed by his loving family; children Fiona, Marty, Eamonn, Sarah, Emma and Stephen and their mother Marie, brothers Martin and John, grandchildren Maggie, Nell, Molly, Ruby, Elio, Charlie, Eva and Donnacha, daughters-in-law Andrea and Lizzie, sons-in-law Oli and Mike as well as nephews, nieces, extended family and his very special neighbours and friends on Inismacatreer Island.
May his kind and friendly soul rest in peace
Funeral Arrangements:
Thursday 4th June, 2026
Mike will lie in repose at the O' Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue (H91 V1K8) from 5 p.m. to 6.30 p.m.
Friday 5th June, 2026
Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Mike at The Franciscan Abbey Church, St. Francis Street, Galway (H91 DH A2) on arrival at 10.30 a.m.
Following Mass he will be laid to rest in the new cemetery, Bohermore. Live streaming of the Mass is not available in The Abbey.

Street parking may be available on Fr Griffin Road, within the Claddagh, Henry Street, Sea Road, the Crescent and Doctor Colohan Road.
There is limited space reserved at the funeral parlour for immediate members of Mike's family. Some spaces are reserved for guests with mobility needs.
Car Parks within walking distance of the Parlour; The Claddagh Church, Spanish Arch and Mill Street which is adjacent to the Garda Station.
