Barbara Carty (née Canavan)

Formerly of Clifden, Co. Galway and Baltinglass, Co. Wicklow.

Barbara died peacefully at Galway University Hospital in the early hours of Saturday, 2nd May with her devoted son Robert by her side. Predeceased by her beloved husband Nick and also by her parents Mary and Stephen and by her sisters Pauline, Kathleen and Esther.

Deeply mourned and sadly missed by Robert, daughter-in-law Aoife, and cherished grandchildren Mila and Max. She will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews, sisters Helen and Carmel, brother Thomas, sister-in-law and brothers-in-law, the extended family, neighbours and friends. Barbara will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, sense of humour, and adoration of her family. Robert wishes to extend his sincere thanks to Barbara’s loyal carers Meena and Kavitha, her cherished niece Elaine and the Glynn and Morales families, and the staff of University Hospital Galway for the care and compassion shown to Barbara in her final days.

Funeral Arrangements

Tuesday, 5th May, 2026

Barbara will lie in repose at 'St. Anthony's Room' within the Church of St. John the Apostle, Knocknacarra from 5 p.m. with Removal into the Church at 6.30 p.m. (H91 W0H4)

Wednesday, 6th May, 2026

Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Barbara at 11 a.m. Live streaming link for Mass: https://www.churchtv.ie/knocknacarra/ Following Mass, Barbara will be laid to rest in Rahoon cemetery.
